Getting to know a new definition of food

A group of eight students of Agrotechnical and Economic Schools in Werynia participated in the weekly mobility in Croatia. The purpose of this trip was to learn about a new definition of food. The Food Redefined project is aimed at students training in the profession of nutrition technician and catering services and is 100% financed by European funds. The students started their visit in Croatia with a tour of the town of Metković. They visited the harbour, park and main square. An interesting place was the Predolac Hill, which is located near the Neretva Delta, one of the most beautiful parts of Croatia. The next point of the visit was the Metković Natural History Museum. Here, students had the opportunity to see and hear a wonderful display of many species and habitats. They also learned about the preserved region of the Neretva River and the flora and fauna that make this part of Croatia famous and unique. Visiting each town was combined with demonstrations and tastings of local, traditional ingredients and dishes such as: local bread, octopus, shrimp, Dalmatian prsut, butter, cheese, figs, tangerines, grapefruits, olives, olive oil, pomegranates and many others. Other points of the visit were trips to Orebić, Dubrovnik, Ston, Opuzen and Vid. In these beautiful places, in addition to participating in workshops on salt, traditional cuisine and the customs of serving dishes in ancient times, the youth from Werynia visited the historic walls, the fortress and the salt works. However, their visit could not take place without cooking together, which was the most important during a study visit to Croatia. During the workshops at the Gimnazija Metković school, together with students from Croatia and Portugal, young people from Werynia learned how to use various spices. They prepared squid risotto, stewed lentils, local fish and prawns in a spicy tomato sauce, Christmas fruit and chocolate cake. Apart from the desserts and rosettes, the students will remember the taste of scorpion fish, which tasted delicious despite its ugly appearance.

The mobility to Croatia was possible thanks to the implementation of the project "Food Redefined" with the number 2020-1-PL01-KA229-081707_1 on the principles of the Erasmus + Program, sector School education - action KA229.
